Titanium Chronograph Watch
Titanium is a metallic element found in the earth's crust. The element occurs as a bright, lustrous metal or a silver-gray or dark gray powder. In commercial use titanium is normally alloyed with other chemicals to create an extremely hard and durable material. Alloyed Titanium is categorized by grades that are often referred to by their tensile strengths, as in 35A, 50A, etc. The difference has to do with sub-percentage traces of oxygen and iron in the metal. The more of these dopants (inclusions, contaminants) there is, the harder the metal becomes. The most common grade used in Jewelry and watches is aircraft grade Titanium.
There are several clear advantages to watched made with Titanium over other materials:
- Titanium watches are quite comfortable because they are surprisingly light on the wrist. You can feel the difference compared to a steel watch.
- Titanium is hypoallergenic. It's nickel-free. Titanium watches can be worn comfortably even when the skin perspires.
- Because the metal is stronger than steel, titanium watches are more durable.
- The corrosion-resistance feature makes titanium particularly well suited for divers' watches. Titanium is environmentally friendly it comes from the earth and is recyclable.
The only drawbacks of Titanium watches are their price (more expensive than steel and their tendency to stain or scratch easily.
